Two reasons to rethink your blood pressure medications in Parkinson's disease
There are two simple reasons to rethink your blood pressure medication use (anti-hypertensives) if you have Parkinson’s disease. Check out our new video on Facebook about the 2 reasons to rethink your blood pressure medications if you have Parkinson’s.
First, the degenerative process itself in Parkinson’s affects the autonomic nervous system and overall this usually lowers the blood pressure.
Second, dopamine medications (Sinemet, Madopar, Rytary, agonists, others) lower blood pressure.
So, what does this mean?
If you have Parkinson’s disease and you are on blood pressure medications you should be in a continuous discussion with your doctor whether the doses need to be adjusted or in some cases whether they can be stopped.
