Tips to safely navigate the kitchen with Parkinson's disease

The kitchen can be one of the most dangerous areas of the house for a person with Parkinson’s. Check out our new blog video on tips to stay safe in the kitchen with Parkinson’s.

  • Reaching up into cabinets can lead to balance issues and falling.

  • Placing commonly used items like utensils, bowls and plates on the countertop will make life easier and safer,

  • Place common snacks on the counter for easy access (fruits, vegetables, etc.).

  • Use cups with handles and if spilling is an issue there are coffee cups with mechanisms to prevent spilling (from tremors or other movements).

  • Kitchens often require tight turning and this can put you at risk to fall. Be careful, stay safe and go slow (there should be no rush).
