Can you improve your handwriting with Parkinson's? Living with Parkinson's Tip of the Day
What could be more frustrating than not being able to write legibly or to sign your name? Many people with Parkinson’s struggle with this small task. Though we don’t have all the answers here are a few things you can try:
A weighted pen.
A rubber grip on the pen.
A mat under the paper. Some stores sell mats designed to make sure the paper does not slip
Think big and write big.
Pause and rest after every sentence. In Parkinson’s the “micrographia” will usually get worse if you keep writing without a break.
Much like we teach people to exercise with big movements purposely try to write BIG.
Most experts suggest printing and avoiding cursive.
Ask your doctor for a consultation to an experience occupational therapist and mention that you would like all the latest tricks to improve your handwriting.
