Flight of the Butterfly
Have you ever just had one of those days? I found myself dysphoric about school, disappointed about life and frustrated with my imminent problems. Then, miraculously, a butterfly landed on my shoulder. It climbed onto my finger and as I walked through the hospital I realized that it was content to stay with me. I could not explain what had happened. To class we went, and as I pondered my new friend, I had a revelation. I brought him back outside, and as if he knew what I was thinking, he flew away.
This poem appears in the book, Lessons from the Bedside.

Flight of the Butterfly
Flight of the butterfly,
Journey to the unknown,
Floating through the sky,
Future unsewn.
He sings no songs,
And has few friends,
Careful to commit no wrongs,
There’s a message that he sends.
Life is not a test,
For soon he will die,
Only showing us his best,
Flight of the butterfly.
