I am struck in reflecting about my experience as a fresh intern having just graduated from medical school— that I so effortlessly wrote prescriptions for PT, OT and speech. I erroneously assumed that these prescriptions were all that was required to rehabilitate my patients. This was a huge mistake.

Bad therapy in Parkinson’s disease can lead to falls, fractures and nursing home placements. Not all therapy is equal. You do not want a back pain therapist or a traumatic brain injury therapist (TBI) if you have Parkinson’s disease.

Also, we must design specific rehabilitation paradigms for each patient depending on their individual needs.

Parkinson’s therapy is truly an exercise in precision medicine.
