Keep waking up in the middle of the night? The Living with Parkinson's Tip of the Day

Do you have this issue? You take your medications and go to sleep with your Parkinson’s disease, but you keep waking up in the middle of the night?

Worse than waking up is that you cannot get back to sleep….

Many doctors prescribe the CR or continuous/sustained release Sinemet at bedtime to deal with this issue, but the reality is— it will not get you through the night.

The issue of waking up and not being able to get back to sleep has a name— reemergent Parkinson’s disease symptoms.

The brain is looking for dopamine and can’t get back to sleep until you re-dose.

The treatment is actually simple, cheap and straight forward. Place some extra Sinemet tablets on your bedside table and if you wake up (for whatever reason) and can’t get back to sleep, then re-dose the Sinemet. If you are on Rytary, Madopar, Imbujia or Sinemet CR we recommend re-dosing whichever dopamine pill or inhaler formulation you are on.

Remember, if you don’t get a good night’s sleep your next day will not likely be as great as it can be.
